An Unforgettable One Year Anniversary

An unforgettable One-Year-Anni…

September 1st marked my one year anniversary with my husband.  Many have often stated that the first year of marriage is not only typically full of struggles, but also the most difficult. At first I did not truly understand this concept, since I applied it to our occasional bickering about who didn’t put the toothpaste cap back on,  which color to paint our walls, or who would take out the trash, but to be honest, these were just minor ordeals of everyday life; I finally understood that our love could only persevere with faith in something greater than everyday life.

I’d have to say that this year I strived to focus more on our relationship and appreciating the simple things, like our weekly stops to the local grocery, baking pumpkin bread together, our lazy Sunday afternoons, and engaging in conversations about our future. We’ve definitely learned a lot from each other as a married couple, in terms of mutual respect and admiration, saying ‘thank you’ often, going out of our way to making more time for each other, and being excited to see one another after a long days’ of work.

Needless to say, my first year was not without its fair share of hardships.  A few weeks before our actual anniversary, I received a call from the hospital informing me that my husband had a seizure and experienced a near fatal accident.  It was unsettling for me at the time to have felt almost losing my husband of only less than a year; I was in complete and utter shock and didn’t know what to do with myself.  Sitting in that stale hospital room, watching my husband lie lifeless was not how I wanted this year to end, nor would I allow the love of my life to give up on our future so quickly.

After 3 full days in the hospital, he finally regained consciousness and opened his eyes for the first time, reaching out to hold my hand … and I have to say, that aside from the day I married him, it was the happiest day of my life.  He eventually regained his health, memory, and strength back.  It wasn’t until this 1 year mark that I learned to truly cherish every moment I had with him.  It’s unfortunate that sometimes something so terrible needs to happen in order for us to see things in perspective.  Although as much as I hated seeing him in such a state, I am somewhat happy and relieved that it happened, because now I will always be forever thankful for him in my life.

Sometimes when I look at pictures from our wedding day, I wish I could relive the entire experience, especially the part of being surrounded by all of my favorite people in one place, but the new memories I form with the love of my life is far more worthwhile.

Here are few of my favorite photos from our wedding and our unforgettable 1 year anniversary trip to Europe.

One of the most precious moments with my dad was right before our father-daughter dance.  I held his hand after telling me how nervous he was about dancing in front of a large crowd.

Loved the moment when he whispered in my ear “The best day of my life” during our first dance.

We are so excited this morning to share these amazing photos of Jennifer & Levik’s romantic-chic wedding taken by coco gallery.

We are so lucky to have been a part of this gorgeous affair. They chose yellow and blue colors to represent their school colors, where they officially hit it off and it was the perfect color combination to incorporate into their favors, flowers, and overall reception decor.

We can’t express how beautiful this couple is.  You can feel the love in every photo!  If you love grand entrances with dazzling chandeliers like we do, you will fall in love with these photos over and over again! Just see for yourself!

Celebrating One Year of Wedded Splendor & Bliss…

On May 19, 2013, my husband and I blissfully celebrated our 1-year wedding anniversary. I know this is very cliché to say, but time sure does fly! It really does feel as though it was only just yesterday I stood faced in front of my fiancé with moments left before being pronounced husband and wife (fun fact, my college professor, also a phenomenal pastor, officiated us!)

Fast forward a little over a year later and here I am now, married to a wonderful husband, loving, charismatic, loyal, ambitious, driven and so much more…with, something I’m still learning to adjust to, a minor temper (I’ll briefly get into this later).

Here is a quick history of our story and how we came to be…

2002:
-A mutual friend of ours and I decided to bring our friends out for a fun evening out. This is the day we met for the first time. William (husband) was 19 and I was 18.

2002 – 2008:
-A genuine friendship flourished since day one and we developed a strong friendship.
-Supported each other through life’s failures and successes, relationship ups and downs and witnessed one another become adults (so we like to believe).

2009:
-A friendly dinner date as friends to Sushi Roku in Santa Monica, CA opened the door to possibilities of moving beyond “just friends”. He swears I made the first move but I stand firm and object to his accusations…he held my hand first!
-A visit to Vancouver, Canada (he was there on work rotation for 5 months) lead to a single red rose placed above a card that expressed his feelings for me and asked me to officially be his “girlfriend”.

2011:
-A surprise proposal in Temecula. Of course, I said YES!

2012:
-Married May 19th, 2012 with 120 of our closest friends and family at the Burbank Equestrian Center.

Love and marriage is truly a beautiful combination, but I’ll be honest, it’s not 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, lovey-dovey, sunshine and rainbows with a white unicorn gliding through kind of union…it takes work; but because you’re with that one true love that was always destined to be yours, it won’t feel like it one bit.
